The festival of Madonna of the sick (1st week in Sept) – This five day religious festival in Sicily Catania takes place in the small town of Misterbianco, about 8km/5 miles outside of Catania. It pays homage to Madonna for the miracle that took place when she remarkably saved the sanctuary of her name from the devastation of Mount Etna when it violently erupted.
